About the Founder

Hamish Briggan Deal, better known as the Real Deal, has over the past 30 years developed a diverse skill set in several industries.

  • 13yrs old: Family joined the contract security industry and Hamish Deal was indirectly exposed to this industry.
    • He attended (at this young age) training courses as an observer, joined inspectors’ and supervisors on the road visiting sites where security personnel were posted.
    • This was the start of his Real interest in Security.
    • He already grasped the importance of the Occurrence Book, Incident Reports, Two-way radio systems, Communication procedures and Baton handling techniques.
    • Companies Hamish Deal was exposed to were: Coin Security, Strategic Services, Peninsula Guarding, Duke Security, Fend Security & Federal Guarding.
  • Leaving school: Reporting for National Service (Kimberly), on to Military Police (Pretoria), then transferred to Wynberg detention Barracks as a DB Instructor, and finally Wynberg Military Police Regional Head Quarters.
    • Whilst being posted at Wynberg Military Police Unit Hamish Deal also worked weekends at Duke Security, both being posted on a site as well as inspecting sites.
    • He obtained exposure in the Retail/Commercial/Residential and Industrial fields.
    • Companies that he attended to: Rex Truform; Queens’ Park; Bromor Foods; Bromor Moirs; Fedgas; J. Ryan Printers; Bonwit; Alnet; Woodbridge Island; La Provence; Imperial Cold Storage; Phillipi; Oude Molen; Constantia Village Shopping Centre and many more.
  • After completing his National Service, Hamish Deal commenced with his professional career in security at Duke Security (Units 3 & 4), Salt River, C.T. Shortly after starting as a full-time supervisor he was promoted to District Operations Manager.
    • First site: Rex True form/Queen’s Park – 14 officers on dayshift.
  • From here on, Hamish Deal explored the Uniform Industry (appointed by Frank Finn Uniforms).
    • He worked Regionally & Nationally and was later posted in Johannesburg.
  • Hamish Deal returned to the security industry where he now was involved with the start-up of Federal Guarding, where his exposure to the Physical Risk Management Industry was hugely expanded.
  • Hamish Deal then went on to the Access Control Industry; and
  • Electronic Intrusion Detection Industry (Brodie Multisec) – Position: Technical Sales Manager.
    • Duties ranging from: Marketing; Selling alarms; Programming and Managing Installations and Handovers.
  • During this time Hamish Deal was closely involved and formed part of the team that founded North Patrol Armed Reaction, the 1st SAIDSA approved armed reaction service based in Durbanville, CT. (Interesting fact: In those days (mid-90’s) reaction time of 5 minutes or less was still attainable.)
  • 1997: Hamish Deal was offered an opportunity to start up a Physical Risk Management division as co-founder and equal partner: Federated Security Solutions – FSS. This was not an easy feat, due to the fact that the risk management concept was still in its infancy in S.A., and this concept was misunderstood by many businessmen.
    • This led to the company changing its name to African Risk Management, and it was hugely supported by clients such as: Graham Beck Wines, Douglas Green Bellingham (DGB), Clutch Brake Supplies, Parts Incorporated, DPI Plastics, Simba Chips, PenBev, Parmalat, Vodacom, Modalink and many more.
  • ± 2003: Hamish Deal joined the Motor Industry, working in different sale capacities.
  • After this Hamish Deal was offered an opportunity in the storage industry, working at one of the largest self-storage providers in S.A.: U-Store-It.
    • Starting out as Maintenance Manager.
    • Developing into General Manager.
  • 2009 the business was sold to XtraSpace Properties, and U-Store-It became known as XtraSpace Self Storage, Airport.
    • Hamish Deal continued to manage aspects on all fronts including (and not limited to): Security; Occupational Safety; Fire (PRM); Maintenance; Special projects; Human Resources, etc.
  • 2012: XtraSpace purchased the Imperial Equestra Building in Bellville (previously known as Orbit Motors).
    • Hamish Deal was tasked with day-to-day management of the professional team (including architects, engineers, developers, etc) to re-invent this building into the Blue-Chip Storage Facility it is today – XtraSpace Bellville.
  • With time passing the region increased its size and Hamish Deal was appointed as the Regional Manager for: XtraSpace Bellville 1, – Bellville 2; XtraSpace Express; SpaceBox; EcoBox; XtraSpace Kraaifontein & the Box Shop.
    • Duties & functions included (and not limited to): Managing of: Operations; Sales; Marketing; Physical Risk Management (Fire, Security, OH&S); Collections of Arrears; Sponsorships; Maintenance; Human Resources and Staff Management; Client Relationship Management, as well as ad-hoc special projects.
  • 2019: Towards the end of this year the Intespace Group (Holding Company of XtraSpace) implemented restructuring and Hamish Deal faced termination of the employment relationship.
  • This led to the start of REAL DEAL RESOURCES (PTY) LTD.
    • Creating the PERFECT opportunity for Hamish Deal to use the knowledge, skills and practical experience gained over the past years to offer you, the client, the high-quality service that you expect and deserve.

About the Group

Real Deal Resources founded by Hamish Deal is the culmination and result of extensive experience in a variety of fields and industry. These include and are not limited to physical auditing, physical risk management, contract security management, security guarding and related personnel, armed reaction, security system monitoring, electronic security system installation, security systems design and implementation, security management, incident and accident investigation.
